10 Months!

I can't fathom how 10 months can go by so fast! I remember all of the events the day Jimmy was born, from the tear-inducing contractions the moment Dr. Rawson came into my room for my weekly appointment to the famous Freebirds pre-delivery dinner. It's all so vivid in my mind and it seems like just yesterday. Dearest little boy, you are my pride and joy, but please, please don't grow up so fast!

Here are a few things about Jimmy at 10 months:

  • He slammed his fingers in his closet door today. It was the first time he's ever even tried to put his fingers in there and the cry that came from him was like I've never heard before. I picked him up and cried with him, apologizing for turning my back even just for a second. His little fingers turned black and blue, but luckily, no major damage was done. When he pulled my face in front of his (his new favorite thing) and saw my tears, he started to laugh. And then I laughed. And all was well with the world again.
  • He wears a size 4 diaper. He's been in those for months.
  • Clothes size is anywhere from 18 months at some stores all the way to 2T. Yes, a 2T. He's quite the little man.
  • He has a number of different crawls. There's the army crawl (which he rarely does anymore), the standard crawl (he moves at light-speed when he does this) and the one-leg-up-one-leg-down crawl (he does this on tile so both legs won't get cold).
  • He stands up on anything: the wall, the couch, his crib, my legs. Anything. And he can stand for minutes at a time, but when you try and get him to walk, he tumbles forward without even trying to pick up his feet.
  • He can crawl up the stairs with no assistance, not that we let him. One of us is always behind him and one in front, but man, that kid can get up stairs fast!
  • He's absolutely, head over heels in love with Brinkley. He says a rendition of her name that makes my heart melt and when she's around, he is all giggles and love.
  • He gives kisses with an open mouth, so watch out. He doesn't care who you are or how wet they may be, if he wants to kiss you, he will. He also licks, sometimes.
  • He can take his clothes off. I find him with no pants quite often, and the other day, he had managed to maneuver both sleeves off. The shirt dangled from around his neck as he looked at me from his crib and smiled his "look what I did" smile.
  • Bath time his his favorite part of any day. If you want to talk about baths but don't intend on giving him one, you have to spell the word or else he will go bonkers. Baths are serious time for playing and exploring, and he doesn't want to hear about it if he isn't getting one.
  • He would prefer to go naked all day. Putting clothes on is a real struggle, as is putting a diaper on. It must be funny to watch me stumble around, pregnant belly and all, after him as he flees to escape putting clothes on. Once I catch him, he thrashes about and puts up a fight until it's over. Poor Ethan, he's taken a few swift kicks during this not so shining moment in Jimmy's life.
  • He loves to share. Correction, he loves to share food. He will feed Brinkley, our floor and you, but most of that delicious concoction I've made for dinner ends up everywhere but his mouth.
  • He bites. Hard.
  • He likes to point at things.
  • He's smarter than I sometimes give him credit for and he outsmarts me at least once a day.
  • He's dramatic. Independent. Loving. Caring. Ornery at times. Absolutely a gift from God.
  • No other baby has such impeccable sleeping habits.
  • His two favorite off limits toys are the remote and cell phones. If he grabs one, he gives us a big smile and chuckle before he shoves it straight in his mouth. Then, we take it away and he cries.
  • I have yet to find a food he really doesn't like or that he's allergic to.
  • He's 2.5 feet tall, which is half of me. I hope both boys tower over their little Mommy.
  • He will sit still only to watch Jimmy play Halo.
  • His favorite cartoon, and the only one that remotely gets his attention, is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Whew! There's tons more but some things are memories that are best kept in a Mommy and Daddy's heart. Happy 10 month, little one! Soon we will celebrate your first birthday!!!
